CV Format and Editing

Most doctors only have one standardised 'medical' CV, tailored towards job applications in the clinical medicine environment. In business terms, these often represent a strategic summary of achievements to date, but are generally unsuitable for use within the corporate setting.

Our CV specialists will review your current format and make recommendations in order to help you convert this to a more business-friendly version. We stress that our service is a 're-formatting' service as opposed to a 're-writing' service as we feel it is important to represent an accurate portrayal of the candidate through their CV. A 'medical' CV is vastly different from that expected in the corporate environment, and this is why the vast majority of doctors submitting their standard CV will never even be called for interview.

One of the most crucial aspects of your CV within a business environment is the concept of 'added value'. Whilst most doctors will have a string of different positions listed on their CV, a number of these will be extremely similar in nature. The key to harnessing your CV to its best potential will be to identify the contribution that each role has made in shaping who you are in terms of experience, skills and knowledge. We will work with you to ensure that each job listed on your CV adds some form of 'value'. This will reduce replication and minimise space that could be otherwise filled with more relevant content applicable to the corporate environment.

We will also aim to enhance your CV wherever possible by asking detailed questions about each of these past roles and extracting relevant information that you would not otherwise have offered on a 'medical' type of CV. Many doctors will have shared a range of interesting life experiences, working abroad or in difficult environments, practising medicine in both conventional and unusual settings. These types of experience are less common within the business world and will add a sense of diversity to what is otherwise a relatively 'standard' corporate CV. The addition of language skills will also help to build your profile and give you a competitive edge over less internationally minded candidates.

It is possible that there will still be some strategic 'gaps' in your profile based on your re-formatted CV in terms of business relevant experience or necessary skills required for working within the corporate environment. In such cases, we will advise you of these and work with you to create a strategy in order to minimize this impact prior to your applications. For applicants with a suitable period of time available (3 months minimum), we may recommend particular 'CV broadening' roles or tasks to be completed in order to fill these gaps more effectively.
